How do I prepare for an honor choir audition?

Start with daily ear training: tonal memory (sing back short patterns), scales, triads, and sight-reading. Honor Choir Academy walks you through these skills step by step with real-time pitch feedback so you know what to fix before audition day.

What is tonal memory on a honor choir audition?

Tonal memory (sometimes called aural recall) is when the judge plays a short melody twice and you sing it back accurately. Honor Choir Academy trains this with piano patterns, instant scoring, and a curriculum modeled on real honor choir and college audition sheets.

How can choir directors help students prepare for honor choir?

Teachers create a class on Honor Choir Academy, add students to the roster, and share a class code. Students practice at home while you track XP, stars, accuracy, and assignments from your dashboard, with no manual grading required.

Is Honor Choir Academy free for students?

Students join free through a teacher's class code, and Chapter 1 of every course is always free. When a teacher has a premium plan, their students unlock every chapter of every course. Individual singers can also subscribe on their own.

What skills do all-state and honor choir auditions test?

Most honor choir and all-state auditions include tonal memory, sight-reading, scales and triads, and sometimes an Italian aria or solo. Honor Choir Academy covers tonal memory today, with scales and triads live and sight-reading and aria courses in development.

Do I need music theory experience to start?

No. Honor Choir Academy begins with simple whole-tone and half-step patterns and builds gradually across 11 chapters. The app scores your singing in real time so beginners can improve pitch accuracy without reading notation first.

How do students join a class on Honor Choir Academy?

Go to honorchoiracademy.com, select Sign in, then Log-in with Class Code. Enter the class code from your teacher, your first and last name, and Begin. Your teacher must add your name to the roster first.
